Thief Caught Pawning Nursing Home Jewelry

A New Hampshire nurse’s aide is facing serious charges after she was caught trying to sell stolen jewelry at a pawn store.

24-year-old Megan Lakos was arrested last Thursday, accused of stealing jewelry from the patients at the nursing home she was employed at and then trying to sell the goods at a pawn store.

Lakos was employed as an aide at the Genesis at Ridgewood Center in Bedford, N.H. She went into resident’s rooms and stole jewelry, the Bedford police said in a statement.

Lakos allegedly stole several wedding rings along with other jewelry.

Bedford Police began an investigation after being called to the facility regarding stolen jewelry on three separate occasions.

Police began reviewing surveillance tapes from local pawn shops and identified Lakos. She was attempting to sell the jewelry that she had stolen. Warrants were issued for her arrest in late October.

Lakos surrendered herself to police at about 7p.m. last Thursday.

Employees at the nursing home refused to comment as to Lako’s current employment status with the facility.

Lakos was charged with three counts of theft by unauthorized taking. She was released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail. She is scheduled to appear in court to face the charges on February 9th.
