Shower Video Leads to Charges Against CNA

Unfortunately, even in care homes, the abuse or neglect of the elderly occurs. While there are many differing types of abuse or neglect, they all have serious consequences for both the facilities and the families of victims. The kind of abuse that occurs in some cases can cause people to be shocked.

A certified nursing assistant in Michigan City, Indiana is accused of posting a video of an elderly resident while in the shower.

Kara DeVaux faces charges including voyeurism and distribution of obscene material in LaPorte Superior Court.

DeVaux, who is 24, allegedly shot video of an 85-year-old resident as she sat on a shower chair while other employees sprayed her with water. DeVaux then posted the video to the social media platform Snapchat.

Co-workers who saw the video immediately reported the incident to a nursing home executive. DeVaux was then suspended from her duties at the care facility.

Court documents regarding the case state that DeVaux told her boss posting the video had been accidental.

DeVaux was not immediately available for comment. It is also unknown if DeVaux has an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
