A Columbus, Ohio nursing home is facing closure. The state health department may soon revoke the facility’s license.
Regency Manor Rehabilitation and Subacute Center is allegedly facing more than a dozen health and safety violations. This is according to records obtained this month.
The list of violations includes sanitary considerations, medication distribution errors, abuse, neglect, privacy concerns, poor living conditions and failure to follow emergency procedures.
The first order from the state came on August 12 after residents had been living for at least 12 days without air conditioning during a heat wave. 125 residents were relocated and the facility received the OK to admit new patients once the air conditioning was fixed.
Yet, on September 2nd, the state sent an order revoking the facility’s license after several more concerns were found to have gone unaddressed.
The director of Regency Manor has requested a hearing in the hopes of reversing the state’s decision. A hearing has yet to be scheduled.
The facility, which is for-profit, is still being fined $200 per day going back to August 12th according to a letter from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The facility was also fined $8,700 a day during the 23 days when the air conditioning was not functioning.
Regency Manor is also in danger of losing its Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements if deficiencies are not corrected by December 9th. Those reimbursements were originally scheduled to end August 20th, but the deadline was extended once the air conditioning issues were fixed.
The facility has an overall ranking of much below average on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ nursing home ranking system. It holds only one out of five stars. The ratings are based on health inspections, staffing levels, and quality measures. Just during this inspection cycle, a total of 20 violations were discovered.
